Domaine Jeannot
Alexis Jeannot, who comes from the Jeannot family who have run the estate for the past 200 years, is now at the helm of this 10 hectare domain.
15% of the
vines in the domain are over 50 years old, which is very rare in a region where
most vines over 20 years old are dug up and replanted for higher yields.
Alexis is
one of 20% of local winemakers who plow their soils mechanically and do not use
herbicides, allowing the grass to grow between rows to limit erosion and
yields.
Domaine
Jeannot is a predominantly red domain. Only ten percent is white wine.
The
vineyards around Saint-Sernin-du-Plaine were planted by Quentin Jeannot's
grandfather, that is, they are between 70 and 80 years old. The yield is not
high. 35 to 40 hectoliters per hectare. The maximum yield for regional
appellations is 55 hl / ha for reds and 60 hl / ha for whites.
Domaine
Jeannot is a relatively new organization. Located in Saint Sernin-du-Plaine,
which is about halfway between the three villages of Marange and Couchy, the
main production is Marange and Santenay.
Only in
1995, the estate was founded after acquiring know-how and several plots for
vineyards. Today they are working on a 10 hectare family winery located in the
heart of the Côte de Beaune.
